Posted on 17 September 2020

Mishcon de Reya LLP is pleased to announce that Gavin Margetson has joined the Firm as a Dispute Resolution Partner in its Singapore office.

Gavin specialises in international arbitration, cross-border litigation and corporate crime and investigations.

Previously, Gavin was a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP (Tokyo, Bangkok and Singapore) before he led Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP's regional arbitration hub in Singapore.

Gavin sits as an arbitrator and is a panel member at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Asian International Arbitration Centre, the Thai Arbitration Institute, Thailand Arbitration Centre, the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association and the Pacific International Arbitration Centre.

He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the ICC Singapore Arbitration Group and a former Chairman of the ICC Thailand Arbitration Commission.

Since opening in May of this year, Mishcon Singapore has expanded to a team of eight, with three Partners. It focuses on delivering legal services to high net worth families across South East Asia, including work on international tax and succession planning, and advising clients and their businesses on private capital investments, restructuring and debt financing transactions and dispute resolution. Recently, they advised PT. Bakrie Capital Indonesia and PT. Ithaca Resources on a landmark $2bn coal-to-methanol project in Indonesia with Air Products, the world leader in coal gasification and a publicly listed company on the NYSE.

Tahirah Ara, Managing Partner of Mishcon Singapore and Head of Asia said, "We are excited to welcome Gavin to the team. He brings a wealth of expertise in a key area for the Firm, and a reputation of delivering successful outcomes for his clients when problems arise."

Gavin added, "I am delighted to have joined Mishcon, a firm with such a fantastic disputes pedigree, and I look forward to helping the firm develop its footprint in Asia.”

Karel Daele, Head of International Arbitration at Mishcon de Reya says, "Gavin's recruitment is testimony to the Firm's ambition to keep growing its international arbitration practice. After bringing Louis Flannery QC on board in London, we are now spreading our wings in another important hub for arbitration work."
