Jonathan Barnett

Jonathan is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution department. He has extensive experience of commercial disputes, with a particular focus on finance and banking disputes, both with regard to litigation and contentious regulatory investigations. Jonathan has regularly acted for large, international financial institutions on disputes concerning matters spanning multiple jurisdictions. He has also been seconded to the in-house disputes team of a global investment bank where he worked closely with multiple divisions within the bank and learned about different financial products.

Jonathan has acted on a range of matters, including: acting for shareholders in their claims regarding the fraudulent and corrupt sale of an African bank; acting for the defendant in respect of a claim for breach of directors' duties; acting for the claimant in respect of a claim regarding the breach of an SPA; acting for a large, multinational lender against borrowers refusing to make payments on the basis of purported issues arising out of sanctions; and acting for a defendant in respect of a long term liability that was the subject of an authorised transfer. His experience of issues in contentious regulatory matters includes forex manipulation, market abuse and perimeter breaches. Jonathan also has experience of Gambling Commission, ICO and Phone-paid Services Authority investigations.
