In conversation with Julia Gillard

Posted on 7 March 2023

In the lead up to International Women's Day, we were joined by Julia Gillard to discuss her new book, Not Now, Not Ever: Ten years on from the misogyny speech with Stella Creasy, MP for the London constituency of Walthamstow.

A decade ago, as the 27th Prime Minister of Australia, Julia stood up in the Australian Parliament and made an impassioned stand against misogyny and sexism. Despite some progress in recognising and tackling discrimination and inequity, misogynist stereotypes still exist and are particularly evident in attitudes towards women in positions of authority, as Australia's first (and to date, only) female Australian Prime Minister reflects on.

Since leaving office, Julia has dedicated her time to advocacy, governance roles and writing. She is the Chair of Wellcome, a global charitable foundation that supports science to solve urgent worldwide health challenges, and founder and Chair of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at King's College London, to which proceeds of Not Now, Not Ever are donated.
