Our Graduate Trainee Programme

At Mishcon de Reya our junior lawyers are the future of the firm. So we need bold individuals, shapers, who can revolutionize the way we work. We keep our intake small so that you take on a high level of responsibility from day one. Responsibility to shape your career, shape the future of the firm, and shape the future of law.

Responsibility

We want you to grow with our business by building and shaping your own. The size of the intake means you will have client responsibilities and opportunities to stand on your own two feet early on to produce client work, engage with clients, and establish and grow your own portfolio sooner at Mishcon.

Variety

Our practice areas range from art to sports to working with emerging companies; a breadth you won't find elsewhere. We act in some of the most-high profile and ground-breaking cases in the industry. The wide range of issues we are involved with means we have a broad client base, giving you the opportunity to work on some of the most complicated, challenging and exciting legal issues.

Self-improvement

Our own centre of in-house learning and new thinking, The Academy, creates over 300 new courses each term, to help you upskill and develop your interests. Our Digital Sessions examine some of the biggest issues that face society today through interviews with famous figures in culture, business and politics. The interviews are suggested by and hosted by Mishcon people, with recent guests including Caroline Lucas, Mel B, Rory Stewart and Jodie Foster. So one day you could get to interview your hero.

Dynamism

Our continuous drive to deliver the highest quality legal services has a new ally, technology. By embracing AI, investing in start-ups, developing our incubator programme (MDR Lab) and creating our own range of cutting-edge legal tools, we re-affirm our intention to boldly go where no law firm has gone before. You could end up like one of our trainees, who went from working as a lawyer to starting one of our group companies, tech consultancy MDRx.

Diverse teams

We think that you’ll benefit most from working with a team that is diverse and happy. That’s why we encourage our people to be themselves and bring their own special talents. There’s no such thing as ‘a Mishcon kind of person’. How we behave and treat one another has always been as important to us as the results we achieve.

EDI

One of the key strengths of our business is the diversity of the backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives of our people. By attracting the best lawyers and business professionals from a diverse pool of talent we can provide the advice and deliver the services that enable our clients (and our people) to continue to shape the world’s possibilities.

Social Mobility

We have continued to be ranked as one of the UK’s top 75 employers for social mobility in the Social Mobility Foundation’s Employer Index and continue to support our successful apprenticeship scheme and partnership with Sutton Trust to deliver work experience programmes to those from socially mobile backgrounds.

LBTQI+

Over the last three years, our Pride group launched a successful mentoring programme and continued to extend the network through various events such as sponsoring the BFI Flare: London LGBTQI+ Film Festival.

Disability

Over the last three years, we joined the Valuable 500 and committed to helping put disability inclusion on the business leadership agenda. We partnered with the Business Disability forum to provide us with advice and guidance to become more disability inclusive. We also reviewed and improved the recruitment and assessment process within the firm, as well as the way in which we communicate.

Gender

Our gender strand has worked to introduce new family-friendly policies and our approach has been recognised by our inclusion in the Top 30 Employers for Working Families. We also launched our M:Powered Women’s network, dedicated to exploring issues of gender equality and empowerment. Through our Partnership Sponsorship programme, we have promoted 12 women into the Senior Equity positions (SEP), helping us reach our target of 25% women in the SEP.

Race

We offer at least 60% of interview opportunities on our apprenticeship scheme to Black or socially and educationally disadvantaged (BSED) candidates. Over the last three years, we have launched M:BRACE (our race equity network), run regular Black History Month programmes and other awareness programmes, partnered with 10,000 Black Interns and the Stephen James Partnership and others.

Open days

Our application window for this academic year is now open.

Before you apply for a Vacation Scheme, come and meet us at one of our Open Days. Our Open Days are a chance to get a real insight into the type of work we do, the clients we engage with and life as a lawyer at Mishcon de Reya. It's your chance to get to know us better and understand what makes us tick but we also want to leave you with an increased level of commercial awareness about how a law firm operates, the current legal landscape and the future of the legal market.

We will be running these open days both in person at our London office and virtually, so please apply to the one that suits you best.
