Paul Clements-Hunt, Director in the Mishcon Purpose team, has provided his thoughts on the scrutiny over the term 'ESG', which he helped to coin during his time as a UN official in 2004.
He was interviewed for a piece in Bloomberg, which analyses a new trend labelled “Greenhushing”, whereby asset managers in the US are attempting to avoid any backlash over their investment choices by downplaying or deliberately opting against reference their sustainability credentials.
Speaking specifically on the term ESG, Paul argued that debate surrounding it is giving the drive towards sustainability much-needed publicity, explaining: “That’s exactly what we want".
