Angeli Arora was recently featured in eprivate client's 'In the spotlight' feature, a Q&A on her career and areas of interest. As part of her interview, Angel was asked about her focus on driving sustainability efforts.
When asked of its importance, and the challenges facing the move towards reaching net-zero, Angeli commented: "As lawyers we have an ability and responsibility to influence change, including through laws and regulations, litigation and setting market standards in documents. Lawyers who focus on sustainability or at least build it into their practice areas will play a critical role in bringing about sustainability change.
Our planet is in a state of emergency – and current sustainability efforts are not enough to solve the crisis. More drastic regulatory intervention and coordinated efforts are required on a global scale to achieve the necessary impact. Terms in sustainable development can be used inconsistently, leading to greenwashing or impact washing – which in turn undermines the objectives of sustainable development."
