Greener Litigation has today announced the launch of the Greener Litigation Pledge Italy, with leading Italian firm Pavia e Ansaldo becoming its first signatory.
The expansion of the initiative internationally marks a significant step forward, as Greener Litigation works with lawyers overseas to set up additional Greener Litigation movements in non-UK jurisdictions and drive environmentally friendly dispute resolution.
Greener Litigation Italy was established after Pavia e Ansaldo contacted leaders of the initiative, a recognition of the success of the Greener Litigation Pledge which has so far gained 77 signatures. Whilst some organisations based outside the UK have chosen to sign the Greener Litigation Pledge, this new development allows legal organisations to commit to make changes that are specific to practising in the jurisdiction of Italy.
By signing the Pledge, the Italian firm has committed to take active steps to reduce the environmental impact of dispute resolution in Italy, including to minimise the emissions incurred by hard copy documents and international travel.
Olivia Wybraniec, Managing Associate Barrister at Mishcon de Reya and Greener Litigation steering committee member, commented: "We're thrilled to announce the launch of the Greener Litigation Pledge for Italy. Climate change is a borderless issue so we're naturally excited that has Pavia & Ansaldo chosen to make this important commitment and become its first signatory, leading the way in engaging the Italian legal profession to reduce the carbon impact of dispute resolution."
Roberto Oliva, Partner at Pavia e Ansaldo, commented: "We are very proud to represent Italy for the launch of the Greener Litigation Pledge and commit ourselves to promote it in our jurisdiction, as we strongly believe in the goals that this manifesto proposes. Pavia e Ansaldo helped to shape Italian legal profession in the 20th century, and it is ready to do the same in the 21st century, facing new challenges such as the inescapable need to reduce the carbon footprint and preserve the environment for ourselves and future generations. This willingness confirms our own efforts on sustainability and environmental care and protection, and we sincerely thank Mishcon de Reya for involving Pavia e Ansaldo in this important initiative.”
