In a recent piece for EG, Construction Partner Phoebe McLarty looked at the recently updated JCT Design and Build Contract and considered its impact on the construction sector.
The JCT 2024 Design and Build Contract has undergone significant revisions. With the construction sector facing numerous challenges since the release of the JCT 2016 edition, the industry has eagerly awaited these updates.
The latest version, released on 17 April, addresses contemporary issues by including provisions for epidemics, incorporating the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022, and aligning with the principles outlined in the Construction Playbook. It also promotes inclusivity through the use of gender-neutral language and modernises the contract by facilitating the use of e-signatures and email for contractual communications.
We anticipate further updates as the other forms are released, including the introduction of a new Target Cost Contract.
