The ICO has today confirmed that they will not offer early payment discounts in cases brought under the UK's data protection legislation.
Speaking on the matter, Data Protection Advisor Jon Baines said: "The early payment discount for monetary penalties was always a discretionary scheme run by the ICO, but one assumes it aimed to encourage prompt payment, and discourage prolonged disputes."
"It is not immediately clear why the ICO has now changed its mind on this, and one wonders if it will lead to more appeals to the First-tier Tribunal."
