Executive Chairperson Kevin Gold and Managing Partner, Singapore and Head of Asia Tahirah Ara have spoken to Law.com about Mishcon de Reya's strategy for expansion in Asia.
According to Kevin, the office expansions into both Hong Kong and Singapore were a response to a trend in which, "economic hegemony was shifting towards Asia, and in the eastern part of Asia, people just didn’t want to come into the U.K. to buy professional services… To be in line with our global private client and disputes offering, we felt the need to create an actual footprint.”
The office in Singapore was launched in 2020, and just over a year later Mishcon entered Hong Kong via an association with the local firm, Karas So LLP. Karas So has now grown from 20 to 36 lawyers.

“Singapore is positioning itself as the hub for high-net-worth individuals,” Tahirah said. “It’s growing from all aspects. Whether it’s banking or trust, or whether it’s from the legal aspect, we want to be there to capture that segment of the market when it comes to legal work because it’s a market that isn’t over-lawyered. With the Mishcon reputation, the expertise, it is a market that we will be able to stand up tall.”
