In this episode, Susan Breen, Partner and Head of the Betting & Gaming Group at Mishcon de Reya, and Paul Leyland, Partner of Regulus Partners, share their views and experiences of the good and not-so-good M&A strategies in the betting and gaming sector over the years. They also cover how these M&A strategies have changed the sector and what they say about the future of the industry.
The podcast was recorded before the lockdown in the UK as a result of COVID-19, but the lessons to be learned from the sector's M&A deals and the pros and cons of M&A versus organic growth remain the same. COVID-19 has significantly changed the landscape, bringing into sharp focus discussions on a raft of issues (including business continuity, liquidity, supply chain considerations and channel shift between land based and online) all of which bump alongside a heady cocktail of politics, increasing legislative intrusion and responsible gambling issues. The fundamentals of good and bad M&A strategies nevertheless hold true.
The Mishcon Accumulator podcast, in association with EGR, is a series of podcasts exploring the latest trends and hot topics in the gambling sector. Listen to the first episode, 'Cyber Security in the Betting and Gaming Sector' here.
