Welcome to the Summer edition of Brand Matters.
In this issue, we consider a variety of developments of interest to brand owners ranging from the current trend for simplified logos and its impact on brand protection to the first GDPR fines in the UK, and the UK government’s approach to sustainability in the fashion industry.
Whilst our future relationship with the EU is still unclear, the preparations for a ‘No Deal’ exit continue. We are receiving numerous enquiries from businesses employing EU nationals and provide a brief update from our Immigration team regarding the implications for EU staff members.
We also provide a brief update on recent trade mark developments in China and Canada, and this month were pleased to hear that Brazil had acceded to the Madrid Protocol with the first designations possible in October 2019.
As ever, please do let us know if you have any questions in relation to this publication. We would love to hear from you.
