In our third Bloody Difficult Women event, chaired by Partner Emma Woollcott, we went into the metaverse, to explore the challenges and opportunities with three pioneers in this space:
- Lauren Ingram, founder of Women of Web3;
- Shahnaz Ahmed, Creative Strategist at Meta; and
- Dr Sylvia Xueni Pan, Professor of Virtual Reality at Goldsmiths University.
Brands, business leaders and investors all expect the metaverse to continue to generate interest and impact in the coming years, but many women feel excluded or left behind by this emerging technology.
This was reflected in an audience survey at the start of the event, with 47% of the saying they were "sceptical" about the metaverse – 41% were "excited" and 13% "ambivalent".
Our Bloody Difficult Women series aims to shine a light on the behaviours, issues and experiences which might discourage women from speaking up – and the ways in which we can all drive change. Our first and second events focused on the experiences of women in traditional and social media.
We look forward to seeing you at the next event in the series soon.
