Peter Nunn, Partner in Innovation, was interviewed by The Times following news that a viral song created with AI that cloned the voices of the music artists Drake and The Weeknd was removed from streaming services.
The cloning of voices raises several issues for the music industry, with Peter explaining that the song could potentially infringe a number of rights, including passing off and copyright.
He predicted that industry players could pursue legal action: “The music industry has exercised its combined might in recent history to crush Napster and other file-sharing platforms and will no doubt do so again. The rights are far more concentrated than they are, for example, in the visual arts space – making a strong response that much more likely.”
