Personal Profile

Nina O'Sullivan is a Partner and Head Knowledge Lawyer in the Innovation Department, with a broad range of expertise in topics across the innovation economy,  including Intellectual Property, Data Protection, and AI. 

She has extensive experience of intellectual property litigation and protection, data protection and related fields, and has a particular interest in developing and emerging areas such as generative AI and online safety. Nina's expertise straddles many sectors, with an emphasis on TMT, betting & gaming, life sciences, and retail & luxury.  As the Innovation Department's Head Knowledge Lawyer, Nina co-ordinates our team of Knowledge Lawyers in providing the team and our clients with up to the minute information, guidance and training on developments across the innovation economy, and the implications for their business. Nina also leads the Innovation Department's approach to pro bono and community engagement, through her role as Responsible Business Partner.

At a firmwide level, Nina is the Client Engagement Partner.  In this role, she shapes and delivers a broad range of client engagement activities, working closely with our Academy and Business Development teams, as well as our cohort of lawyers and knowledge lawyers across the firm.

Having specialised in IP, IT and data litigation at a City firm, Nina subsequently gained valuable experience in developing and delivering training as a Senior Lecturer in IP & Commercial Law. She is an Independent Research Essay Adviser for LLM students at University College, London (UCL) (a role she has undertaken for over 10 years), and is a Visiting Teaching Fellow on the Certificate in Intellectual Property at Queen Mary, University of London, with strong ties more broadly across IP academic communities.

Nina has written and spoken extensively on IP, data and AI issues in all of the main industry press, and in the wider media, including the BBC World Service and news programmes, as well as at academic and professional conferences.  She worked with the Law Commission on its Report into the groundless threats of IP infringement proceedings regime, writing two Background Papers which formed part of the Report. Nina is a member of the Data Protection Committee in the International Trade Marks Association, and a Trustee for the Dulwich Festival.
