In response to a Freedom of Information request from openDemocracy, the Home Office has refused to explain its activities “monitoring” human rights and immigration lawyers, claiming that it would not be in the public interest.
Discussing the Government's response and activities, senior data protection specialist Jon Baines highlighted the lack of analysis of public interest factors.
He also outlines the potential for "serious connotations" should the Home Office continue to refuse to answer questions about its monitoring activities.
