Robert Lewis, a partner in Mishcon's Employment team and head of the Firm's Education Group shared his insights into the Government's private schools VAT policy.
The policy, which introduced a 20 per cent VAT on private school fees is facing several legal challenges, including a judicial review claiming that the policy is discriminatory and undermines the human rights of some children, including those with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).
Robert said that the judicial review is unlikely to impact the introduction of VAT on school fees, and urged parents and schools to “make plans on the basis that the VAT will be imposed from January”.
