Welcome to our final edition of Brand Matters for 2019.
In this issue, we look at various new opportunities for brand owners including collaborations in the fashion and gaming sectors, how best to demonstrate sustainability credentials and the possible implications of the CBD boom in the retail space. We also look at the recent Cofemel case which is likely to impact significantly on the protection of designs, together with EU proposals to enhance consumer protection laws.
The uncertainty of Brexit has been a significant issue for brand owners this year. Following the General Election result, it now seems likely that we will leave the EU with a deal on 31 January 2020. If we leave with the deal proposed, a transitional period will apply until December 2020 during which time the current position is maintained and so, for example, EU unitary rights will continue to cover the UK.
I hope you enjoy reading this edition. Please do get in touch if you have any comments. We would love to hear from you. Do let us know also if you would be interested in attending our Annual IP seminar on 12 February 2020, where we will review all of the key developments concerning trade marks, copyright and designs this past year.
