Technology Partner Ashley Williams was quoted by World IP Review in a piece analysing the provisions of the landmark EU AI Act, which is due to come into force within the coming months.
Ashley explained that the Act shared similar principles to the GDPR Act of 2018 and went on discuss the Act's 'risk pyramid' – three categories which denote the level of risk in an organisation's AI applications and systems – as well the steps that businesses need to take to ensure compliance.
He commented: "Conceptually and politically, there's so much crossover between the GDPR and the new AI Act. Assessing how much control or how many obligations you need to comply with depends on where you fall on the risk matrix. You have to balance rights against the risks and fundamental freedoms of individuals."
