Personal Profile

Laura is a Legal Director in the Insolvency Group.  She is an experienced commercial litigator with a focus on insolvency corporate recovery.

Laura has considerable experience acting for (and against) insolvency practitioners, as well as for companies and individuals facing challenging financial circumstances.  Her expertise include commercial and insolvency litigation, often multi-jurisdictional cases, as well as formal insolvency procedures, investigations and asset recovery.

Laura is a member of the R3 Association of Business Recovery Professionals, the Insolvency Lawyers' Association and the International Women in Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). Laura is also a certified Legal Project Manager and a member of the Association of Project Managers, the Chartered Body for the Project Profession.

Key Experience

  • Greensill Bank v Zurich & Ors: Acting in respect of a $400m coverage dispute relating to the purported avoidance of a credit risk insurance policy and related claims in tort, arising out of the collapse of Greensill Capital (UK) Limited.
  • Acting in respect of winding-up proceedings arising out of the collapse of Greensill Capital (Liberty Commodities Ltd v Citibank NA London & Ors 9 [2023] EWHC 2020 (Ch) and Citibank N.A. London Branch v Speciality Steel UK Limited & Ors [2022] EWHC 1359 (Ch)).
  • Defending complex claims and high-value claims insolvency litigation claims, involving Bermuda and South African insolvency processes.
  • PJSC Uralkali –v- Rowley and Baker as Former Joint Administrators of Force India Formula One Team Limited [2020] EWHC 3442 (Ch). Laura was the lead associate acting to defend proceedings, which were brought against the administrators of Force India.
  • Defending a multimillion-dollar High Court claim brought against de jure directors of an insolvent company incorporated in St Vincent & the Grenadines, which was connected to the high profile bankruptcy of Mikhail Shlosberg in 2015. 
  • Acting for the administrators of the companies that owned and operated the Caterham Formula One Team, in all aspects of the conduct of the administrations.
  • Acting for liquidators in relation to Hellas Telecommunications, a major telecommunications company in Greece, which entered insolvency in 2012. 
  • Acting in relation to an application to place AirFast Tickets Limited into administration and thereafter acting for the administrators in relation to contentious and advisory matters. 
  • Acting for the administrators of a company concerned with mining of precious metals in relation to a litigation funding agreement for the enforcement of an arbitration award.

Laura is a contributing author to Tolley's Insolvency Law Service, a prestigious loose-leaf text published by Lexis Nexis.  Laura writes on the topic of funding insolvency litigation. Most recently, Laura contributed to the Insolvency Intelligence Journal, having co-authored an article titled "Claims Against Administrators by a Party who is Neither a Creditor Nor a Shareholder" ((2021)) 34 Insolvency Intelligence, Issue 2).
