The Climate Crisis Challenge Spotlight Summit, hosted by Property Week and UKGBC in partnership with Mishcon de Reya, Argent, Barclays and Savills, took place at British Land’s 100 Liverpool Street on 23 September. Industry heavyweights gathered to discuss how the sector can work together to address the climate crisis.
Following a keynote address by Lord Callanan, Minister for Climate Change and Corporate Social Responsibility, and presentations from the Green Finance Institute's Emma Harvey and Ibrahim Al-Zu'bi, Chief Sustainability Officer at Majid Al Futtaim, the main partners on the event joined a panel to discuss how the industry can 'turn Followship into Leadership' ahead of COP26.
Susan Freeman, real estate partner at Mishcon, said that there would be many barriers to overcome and ensuring SMEs were on board with the climate agenda would be one of the biggest challenges. "For small businesses, cost is even more of an obstacle than for big businesses. So, there need to be tax incentives and tax breaks there," she said.
