The Prime Minister has announced that a general election will be held on 4 July. This will no doubt slow down any action that the Government may have taken to introduce legislation to abolish the existing tax rules for non-domiciled individuals, due to be implemented with effect from 6 April 2025. We have previously discussed the Government's proposals and specifically how they might impact US individuals and commented upon Labour's counter proposals announced by Rachel Reeves, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer.
We must now await the manifesto pledges for more detail. We will keep you updated as we hear further information from our sources. In the meantime, if you would like to understand how the proposals might apply to your circumstances please get in touch with your usual Mishcon de Reya contact.
