Planning for change: Intervention in the UK planning regime

Posted on 6 November 2024

In the coming months and years of the new Labour leadership, we can expect to see greater intervention in the Planning regime, alongside a raft of other changes aimed at speeding up development and delivery as part of the new Government's economic growth focus.

On Tuesday 5th November our market-leading Planning team hosted an online session, exploring the anticipated reforms and their impact on real estate development. Our planning experts Anita RiveraNicholle KingsleyTom Barton and Daniel Farrand with a guest appearance from Virginia Blackman (National Head of Avison Young's Site Assembly and Compulsory Purchase team), looked at a few key issues such as compulsory purchase, national planning policy changes, new town growth, green/grey-belt considerations and potential government interventions. They provided an insightful analysis and lively debate on these developments and the practical effects these anticipated changes may have on the industry.

Please note that results of the voting poll that took place during the digital session are not available in the on-demand version, but were viewed by live participants.
