Personal Profile

Laurence is a Managing Associate in the Mishcon Purpose team.  He acts in disputes related to the environment, climate change and human rights, and provides strategic Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) advice to clients.

Laurence represents the victims of environmental misconduct, including:

  • Businesses, communities, and individuals who suffered loss or physical injury due to climate change, environmental damage or harmful products;
  • Workers and employees who have been subjected to unsafe or unhealthy working conditions;
  • Whistleblowers who seek to expose environmental wrongdoing within their organisations in a protected manner; and
  • Investors, shareholders and consumers who have incurred financial loss due to companies' misleading green claims ("greenwashing").

Laurence also guides businesses, investors and asset managers in developing progressive ESG strategies that both satisfy their regulatory obligations in diverse jurisdictions and drive commercial value.

Laurence is a member of the legal experts committee of the "Their Future, Our Action" project, an initiative of the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Center for Resilience and Sustainable Development at Cambridge University which advises Small Island Developing States on the regulation of sustainable finance.  He also sits on the committee of the Green Collar Lawyers' Group in London.
