Tomás is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution department. He has over a decade of experience in International Law, focusing on group actions, complex litigations, environmental issues, human rights advocacy, and supervising operations in Europe, South America, and Asia.
Tomás is recognised for his adept handling of high-stakes international group actions involving environmental, competition and consumer matters. He played a critical role in building the most extensive legal case to be presented before the English Courts. This ambitious project brought together affected municipalities, organisations, and individuals in the aftermath of a catastrophic event in Brazil.
Tomás is also the co-founder of Somos Claims Management, where he serves as a board member, contributing to the company's strategic direction and governance.
Key Experience
- Represented, before the English Courts, hundreds of thousands of individuals and municipalities in their case against BHP due to the collapse of the Fundão Dam in Brazil.
- Represented hundreds of families and the Municipality of Brumadinho in a case against TÜV SUD in Germany, arising from the Córrego do Feijão Dam collapse in Brazil.
- Launched a case, and secured jurisdiction in the UK, on behalf of over a thousand orange growers in a case against Sucocítrico Cutrale Ltda, related to damages inflicted by an orange juice cartel in Brazil.
- Represented thousands of Brazilian individuals against Braskem in the Netherlands for the impacts caused by the collapse of a salt mine in Alagoas, Brazil.
- Initiated a lawsuit and secured jurisdiction for thousands of individuals against Netherlands-based defendants regarding water pollution from mining operations in the Brazilian Amazon.
