Mishcon de Reya has been instructed by the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), alongside individual students at Queen Mary, University of London to draw attention to the failure of both QMUL and universities across the country to protect Jewish students.
Since Hamas’s attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, there has been a significant increase in antisemitism in the UK, especially on university campuses. The abuse Jewish students have faced at universities such as QMUL is unprecedented.
Universities are obliged, by law, to ensure their Jewish students are not unlawfully discriminated against and feel safe on campus. Failure to do so may constitute a breach of their duties of care and obligations under the Equality Act 2010.
The firm's public correspondence with QMUL serves as a reminder to the university and all other universities of their duties towards their students.
The Mishcon de Reya team comprises James Libson, Adam Rose, Susannah Kintish and Katy Colton, Polly Green and Grace Houghton.
