Read the full note Editor's Note News PISCES: new Government takes forward plans for trading venue for private companies HM Treasury has confirmed its plans to proceed with the Private Intermittent Securities and Capital Exchange System (PISCES), in its response to a consultation launched under the previous Government. In her Mansion House speech on 14 November, the Chancellor said that the Government was committed to legislating to establish PISCES as "an innovative new stock market" by May 2025 to "support companies to scale and grow". News Consult now, regulate later: BNPL (buy now, pay later) regulation On 17 October 2024, HM Treasury published its consultation on draft legislation for the regulation of buy now, pay later (BNPL) building on the consultations published in October 2021 and February 2023 under previous governments. News New Foreign Influence Registration Scheme aims to strengthen national security by shining a light on covert foreign influence in the UK Last year's National Security Act 2023 introduced the UK's Foreign Influence Registration Scheme. While the scheme was introduced but not implemented under the previous Government, the current Government still intends to bring in FIRS as a priority, with the aim of further strengthening national security.
